Polymarket and Maryland gambling law
Maryland launched regulated online sports betting in late 2022 under the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency. Prediction markets are separate from that state framework and reach residents through the Polymarket app directly.

Maryland pauses enforcement against Kalshi pending Fourth Circuit appeal
According to a court filing, Maryland agreed not to enforce against Kalshi's sports event contracts until the Fourth Circuit rules on Kalshi's appeal. A Sixth Circuit opinion of September 25, 2026 described that appeal as still pending.

Federal judge denies Kalshi injunction in Maryland
U.S. District Judge Adam Abelson denied Kalshi's request for a preliminary injunction, finding it had not shown that federal commodities law likely preempts Maryland law. It was Kalshi's first such loss.

Maryland regulator sends cease-and-desist letters to three companies
The Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Commission ordered Kalshi, Robinhood and Crypto.com to stop offering sports event contracts in the state.
